EYFS Curriculum (Implemented)

Development Matters is the document we use to inform us of all the key things that children need to learn in order to reach their developmental milestones and our expectation is that children leave our setting, Reception Ready. The document provides a 'top level view' of how children learn and develop and how children are healthy and safe. Thoughout the development matters there are 'check in points' which are used as a guide for levels of development for different ages.

At Little Doves Day Nursery we ensure every child is included and supported, we use interventions to make certain that 'no child' gets left behind though our carefully devised curriculum/environment. Where needed we will ensure 'one plans' (additional support) is in place and we can seek support from inclusion partners, health visitors and other professionals to look at any support, needs, adjustments. As early years practitioners we sometimes need to seek and work with more specialised professionals.  We can apply for funding to support your childs needs for extra teaching support or resources. We recognise that children have diverse needs so whats 'normal' for one child maybe different for another. At little doves we pride ourselves in making reasonable adjustments and inputting interventions where needed to give all children the same opportunities. Through the use of exploring children's interests we use Development Matters to ensure that children are developing their skills and knowledge and making progress through assessing and reviewing regularly alongside our partnership with parents

Our early years curriculum is not prescriptive or pre-determined; rather it moves with the children and is meaningful to their interests as starting points. We recognise that utilising the children's interests is important and this is what drives our curriculum. With interests in mind the Development Matters helps inform us of what children need to know to move through the curriculum; the means to build knowledge. We do this through meaningful, interesting, inviting play spaces, the enabling environment is key.

We will work with parents throughout the year to guide them into how they can help support their child's development and learning at home to further build children's knowledge and skills in a fun, interesting and holistic way.

We devise our curriculum; starting with the child, identifying ways that adults can facilitate and how we can give children further opportunities in the provision (A process of Intention, Implementation and Impact). What does your child know? What skills can we teach? and we then assess and use the observations to plan our enviroment and continually extend vocabulary and knowledge. Our nursery ethos is being in the 'awe of wonder' and 'forging forces around the child' collaboratively to support individuals.
